Centenary of Royal Australian Corp of Signals Postal Numismatic Cover (PNC)
This collectible Postal Numismatic Cover showcases a striking pictorial envelope paired with an uncirculated $1 coin, expertly minted by the Royal Australian Mint.
Celebrating 100 years of service since its formal establishment in 1925, the Royal Australian Corps of Signals has long served as the communications backbone of the Australian Army. Evolving from humble beginnings with signal flags, heliographs, and Morse code, the Corps now operates at the cutting edge of electronic warfare, signals intelligence, telecommunications, information technology, and cyber operations—providing vital support to the Australian Army and Defence Force across the globe in times of peace, crisis, and conflict.
During World War II (1939–45), the Corps earned distinction in both the Middle East and Pacific theatres. From the deserts of Libya to Greece, Tobruk, Syria, and El Alamein, the Corps grew rapidly—reaching 25,000 personnel and supported by 3,600 members of the Australian Women’s Army Service. Among them, many worked in the Army Special Wireless Group, intercepting top-secret enemy signals at critical moments.
Since then, members of the Corps have proudly served in operations across Korea, Vietnam, the Western Sahara, Cambodia, Somalia, Rwanda, Bougainville, Solomon Islands, East Timor, Iraq, and Afghanistan. They’ve also participated in various global missions in support of Australia’s national interests. Domestically, signallers have provided critical assistance during natural disasters such as bushfires and floods.
The Corps badge features Mercury, the winged messenger of the gods, holding a caduceus in his left hand, his right hand raised, and his left foot poised on a globe. Above the globe is a scroll bearing the Corps’ Latin motto Certa Cito, meaning "Swift and Sure"—a reflection of their mission to deliver fast and reliable communications. Below the globe sits a boomerang inscribed with “Australia,” and the badge is topped with the St Edward’s Crown.
