2025 Aussie Big Things 2 $1 AlBr Uncirculated – The Big Rocking Horse

The Big Rocking Horse towers over the town of Gumeracha in the Adelaide Hills, on the traditional lands of the Peramangk people. Proudly promoted as the world’s largest rocking horse, it measures more than 18 metres high, weighs 25 tonnes, and has become one of South Australia’s most iconic roadside attractions.

Designed by David McIntosh and John Twopenny, the giant steel-framed and clad structure was completed in 1981 after eight months of construction. Although firmly set in concrete to prevent rocking, it still offers plenty of fun—visitors can climb inside to reach three viewing platforms with sweeping views of the surrounding hills.

The Big Rocking Horse is part of a larger family-friendly complex that also includes a toy factory, café, souvenir shop, and wildlife park. Drawing hundreds of thousands of visitors each year, it continues to combine charm, nostalgia, and adventure in one unique destination.
