2025 Aussie Big Things 2 $1 AlBr Uncirculated – The Big Prawn
Exmouth, a small coastal town perched on the tip of Western Australia’s North West Cape, lies more than 1,000 kilometres north of Perth. One of its standout attractions is the bright orange Big Prawn, a towering tribute to the region’s thriving seafood industry.
Standing seven metres tall and weighing two tonnes, the fibreglass-over-steel crustacean was commissioned in 2005 by seafood company MG Kailis and built by local craftsman Brian Paskins. Donated to the town soon after, the Big Prawn was refurbished in 2020, ensuring it remains a vibrant landmark for visitors.
Located beside the Ningaloo Visitor Centre, this larger-than-life Western King Prawn honours Exmouth’s wild prawn fishery, which harvests around 900 tonnes annually. Today, the Big Prawn continues to delight travellers, offering a quirky photo stop and a proud nod to the town’s seafood heritage.
