2025 Aussie Big Things 2 $1 AlBr Uncirculated – The Big Merino

Royal Australian Mint  |  Barcode: 9349304022143

The Big Merino, proudly known as the world’s largest merino sheep, towers three storeys high at 15.2 metres. Located near the southern Hume Highway interchange in Goulburn, New South Wales, on the traditional lands of the Gundungurra people, it has become one of the town’s most iconic landmarks.

Built in 1985 by Adelaide constructor Glenn Senner, the giant ram was modelled on a prized local stud named Rambo. Its steel frame was shaped with wire mesh before being sprayed and detailed with reinforced concrete, giving the structure its lifelike form.

A fitting tribute to Goulburn—celebrated as the “Fine Wool Capital of the World”—the Big Merino houses an exhibition showcasing the history of Australia’s wool industry. Adjacent to the monument, visitors can explore a gift shop offering woollen goods and souvenirs.

Today, this colossal ram remains one of Goulburn’s most beloved and photographed attractions, drawing travellers eager to admire Australia’s wool heritage in larger-than-life style.
