2025 Aussie Big Things 2 $1 AlBr Uncirculated – The Big Mango

The coastal town of Bowen, in North Queensland’s stunning Whitsunday Region, sits on land significant to the Birri, Jangga, Juru, Gia, and Ngaro peoples. Blessed with a tropical climate and rich alluvial soil, the area is renowned for producing a variety of crops—most famously the Bowen Mango, also known as Kensington Pride, which has become a staple in supermarkets across Australia.

In recognition of this thriving industry, the Whitsunday Shire Council unveiled the Big Mango in 2002. Standing 10 metres tall and crafted from fibreglass, the vibrant orange landmark is both a tribute to the local mango growers and a bold advertisement for the region.

Located beside the Bowen Visitor Information Centre, just four kilometres south of town along the Bruce Highway, the Big Mango has become an unmissable photo stop for travellers exploring Queensland’s tropical coast.
