For centuries, the proud figure of Britannia has symbolized Britain, embodying the nation's cherished values of strength, resilience, and fortitude. Originating from the Romans, Britannia first appeared on coins around AD 119 during the reign of Emperor Hadrian. Though her image faded with the fall of the Roman Empire, she re-emerged during the Elizabethan era, symbolizing Britain’s growing naval power. From the reign of Charles II onward, Britannia has graced the reverse of coins under every British monarch.

Continuing this tradition, the 2024 UK Britannia commemorative coin features the official coinage portrait of His Majesty King Charles III on the obverse.
