2017 $1 Uncirculated Four Coin Set, 'A War Close to Home'
In the early years of World War II, Australia fought alongside British forces across Europe, North Africa, and the Mediterranean. However, following Japan's attack on Pearl Harbour in December 1941 and their subsequent advances throughout the Asia-Pacific region, the war became a much closer threat. The fall of Singapore, the bombing of Darwin, and Japanese submarine attacks in Sydney Harbour in 1942 heightened fears that the Australian mainland could soon face invasion.
This four-coin uncirculated set features $1 coins commemorating key events of the war in the Pacific: the Battle of the Coral Sea, the attack on Sydney Harbour, the defense of Milne Bay, and the Kokoda Track Campaign. With a limited mintage of just 15,000, this set is a significant piece of Australia's wartime history.
